Ahhh... remember going to the bathroom without any interruptions or deciding to hop on over to Starbucks for a quick latte on your way home? Yeah. Me neither. My showers now consist of keeping the door open so I can answer any questions my husband throws at me like, "How much longer 'til I give him a bottle?" or "Honey, where's the paci?" And my Starbucks stops....well, that's a quick roll through the drive thru window, but ONLY if the baby is sleeping and it won't mess up his schedule to ride 15 more minutes in the car...cause if he's awake and happy, he inevitably will become grumpy and fussy as soon as I pull into the parking lot. Am I right?
Should you feel guilty for wanting a break? NOT AT ALL. If anything, you deserve it! I know in the beginning it's hard to leave the little one with just daddy or the grandparents because they don't know what each little whimper means. You, on the other hand, can differentiate between a hungry whimper, a sad whimper, a fussy whimper... and they all sound exactly the same. You're a mom - it's your superpower.
Going out with friends, shoot, just going out in general (even if you're alone) is something that you need to start inserting into your agenda. I know, I know. Easier said than done, right? But mommies know that just 15 minutes of alone time can give that much needed little power up to make it through the rest of the day. Being a mommy is exhausting! And don't worry. Baby will be fine without you for just a little while. The grandparents enjoy spoiling them and the daddies need the experience.
So grab a new razor (or two), shave those legs for the first time in weeks, pick out a fun color and get a pedicure. Oh, and don't forget to go to Starbucks on your way to the nail salon. Better go through the drive thru though.... you don't want to be gone TOO long. ;)
