I don't know about any of you, but I felt like I had my life pretty much together by the time John and I decided to have a baby. We were both happy and stable in our careers, had a beautiful home, both in our late twenties....we had pretty much established a life for ourselves. We were ready to become parents, right??
Pregnancy comes to those in many different walks of life. Married, unmarried, planned, not so much planned, younger ladies, older ladies, those who are financially stable, those who aren't. The list could go on and on. Even the most prepared are in for a few surprises. Pregnancy and life with a baby is very much what I expected; however, it also comes with a lot of things unexpected. Sure. You hear stories about sleepless nights, crying babies, nursing soreness, depression....little smiles, cute yawns, big stretches and warm hugs. But that's just what they are - stories - until you've experienced them for yourself.
Life now has a whole new meaning. My husband and I still have our careers, home, established life, etc., but nothing fully prepared me for the responsibility of motherhood. Laundry can wait. Dishes can pile up in the sink. Dinner can be take out. When your baby needs you, you drop everything and go running. (Even when he doesn't necessarily need you, but you think he does, you'll still go running...)
I love how Tristan smiles when I enter into a room. How he's starting to reach for me and looks around to make sure I'm still nearby. I tell him all the time that he's my biggest fan. But more than that, he makes my world go 'round. I love being the first face he sees in the morning when we wake up. I sing him a good morning song and he reciprocates with the sweetest smile on Earth. I'm not saying every day is filled with perfection and sunshine. I am saying though, that life as a mommy has a whole new meaning.
So mommies, start each day knowing that to some precious tiny little human, YOU are the MOST important person in the entire world.
